Details : this piece of software is aimed at being one of the most advanced and easy-to-use applications available on the market. With automatic links into custom-made websites, clients will be able to manage their properties with ease. The envisaged launch date is during 2010.

Microsoft Excel application development

The following example was for a client's Management Accounts Reporting and Systems Administration team.

Original work method and timeline - three weeks of data analysis and report production

The first system in use was an AS400 system where movements of goods were recorded - the Management Accounts team, comprising five individuals would at the start of each month manually print off reports for their consecutive area of business; generally consisting of 20-30 centimetres worth of paper per team member. With the paperwork in hand they would search for data anomalies and tick them off manually. Once all the anomalies were recorded another six reports were produced in Excel. These reports were then uploaded into Essbase via linking through to Hyperion.

Renaissance Computers VBA application

The VBA application would take each team member's reports produced from the AS400 system and save them to file in a (.TXT) format. Once each team member had saved their downloaded files into the correct area, the VBA application would take just over one minute to complete the entire task which would have taken two weeks via the previous method.

Once uploaded into Essbase, the Systems Administration team would take over and produce and upload the necessary reports for the Financial Accounts team. With the use of a complex set of coding the VBA application also automated this entire procedure; taking several hours to complete, as opposed to a week via the prior method.

The result

The result entirely changed the method in which the Management Accounts team operated and provided their end of month reports to the Financial Accounts team. It tranformed several weeks of work into several hours and provided a more accurate end result.

The reasoning

The reasoning behind this application development was to allow the smoother implementation of the new SAP system that the company was adopting. This allowed the Management Accounts team and the Systems Administration team more time to learn the new SAP system and at the same time continue their normal day-to-day roles. Futhermore the efficiency and accuracy of the reports was greatly improved.
